I've noticed that after I reply to a new ticket, the status will change to "Waiting on customer".  I don't see an obvious way to change this to anything other than "Waiting on customer", but I would prefer it to be configurable.  It may be that I am adding some new details, but am still working on the problem.

You could place the ticket on hold. Otherwise you could edit the viewticket.html.php in your theme around line 255 and add <option value="new"><?php echo LANG_NEW; ?></option>
